Rosewood, Honduras (Acacia, melanoxylon)
Range: Blackwood grows in the mountainous districts of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia as well as in Tasmania.
Uses: Blackwood is one of the finest woods in Australia being used for fine furniture, carving and the turnery.
Properties: Moderately hard and heavy and having a fine texture. Blackwood has a wide colr range from golden brown, red to orange, sometimes variegated.
Machining: Works well with all hand and power tools.
Seasoning: Care has to be taken to see that this species is properly seasoned in order to avoid checking or cupping.
