Origin: Africa
Range: Growing in dense savannah forests in eastern and western central Africa. Native in Senegal, Mali, niger, Chad, Sudan, Guinea-Bissau, Sierre, Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial, Guinea and the Central African Republic
Uses: flooring, molding and occasionally as ornamental veneer.
Properties: The sapwood is demarcated. The heartwood is red-brown to orange-brown. The wood is hard, heavy and durable with a fine texture. The bark has medicinal qualities.
Machining: The wood has a blunting effect due to a high silica content.
Seasoning: Slow drying is recommended.
