Origin:  Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, Chile

Range:  Planted successfully in many parts of the world. There are many specie of Eucalyptus growing at many elevations but primarily near coastal areas and often grown as plantations for pulpwood.

Uses:  In those countries where figured wood is very popular such as in North America, Asia, Middle East and Great Britain - the Figured Eucalyptus species is used for interior architectural woodwork, exclusive furniture and in ship building for interior design. Since the end of the 1990's, this species is also being used for automotive dashboards. The tree is also important to the pulp industry.

Properties:  Eucalyptus has a wide range of colors ranging from cream, pink, green, red, yellow and brown. Also has a wide range of figure types - mottled, beeswing, fiddleback, pomele etc. Checking often occurs in logs with heavy figure. The wood is strong, hard and heavy.

Machining:  Difficult at times. Tools tend to become dull. Fibers may tear when planed.

Seasoning:  Difficult, as this wood is extremely prone to warping.
