Dillenia (Dillenia reticulate King)
Range: Asia, Australia
Uses: medium construction, stairs, paneling decorative sliced veneers, flooring
Properties: Reddish/Brown with some contrasting black veneering. When cutting perpendiculat to the grain numerous rays (flakes) form similar to that of Lacewood. In some areas silicone deposits are common. The grain is mostly straight but can be found to spiral.
Machining: Due to frequent silica content this specie has a blunting effect on machinery.
Seasoning: In order to prevent distortion and checking, slow drying under careful control is needed.
