Range: west central and eastern Africa
Uses: Used primarily for inner and outer cores for plywood. Also used for interior joinery, furniture components, tool handles, flooring and stairs. Can occasionally be sliced for ornamental veneer when variegated.
Properties: The wood is yellow in color when fresh cut turning to grey beige upon exposure. Celtis is moderate in weight and high in strength. The logs perish rapidly.
Machining: Saws easily with a moderate blunting effect.
Seasoning: Dries moderately but with a high risk of distortion and checking.
